CURTAIN GOES DOWN ON THE SOCIAL SECURITY BOARD 30TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS
During the month of July, 2010, the British Virgin Islands Social Security Board celebrated 30 years of providing appropriate services to the people fo the Territory under the theme: Social Security is securing your tomorrow, today! The Anniversary was not only a time for celebration; it was also used as an opportunity to make the public more aware about Social Security.
The month of activities highlighting the significant milestone began with a spectacular open house and health fair at the Social Security Board headquarters. The event provided educational and awareness information on Social Security and on health issues. Hundreds of fairgoers were able to have their blood pressure, cholesterol and sugar tested by the Diabetes Association, over forty breast examinations were performed by the Cancer Association and over fifty massages were done by Bless Hands. Entertainment was provided by Social Security Board Steel Orchestra.
A symposium on “An In-Depth Look at the Board’s Investment Process and Performance” provided an opportunity for attendees to become more familiar about the Board’s investments and financial performances.
A 30th Anniversary Awards Dinner recognized and commended nineteen long service employees’ who served the Board for ten or more years.
Persons filled the H.L.S.C.C. Auditorium for the Oldie Goldie concert and ‘laugh till their belly burst’ as were promised. Social Security staff switched from collecting contributions and paying benefits, briefly, and became models, singers, dancers and actors as they educated the audience from both a cultural and social security outlook.
Celebrations were carried out on the Sister Islands and the audiencces were entertained and educated with exciting items from the Social Security Chorale and Actors.
The Chairperson, Board Members, Director and staff thank the countless persons who made the Board’s 30th Anniversary celebration such a success and learning experience.
